Appellation Marlborough Wine
Appellation Marlborough Wine — What does that actually even mean? As it turns out, it means a great deal to us at Huia Vineyards.
Cellaring wine. What’s the best way to store your elixir?
If you’re a real wine buff owning a good looking cellar is likely to be one of the goals on your wine journey. What are some of the things you should consider? Like cork versus screw cap. Should they be stored differently?
Inseparable Huia
In 2016 we commemorated 20 years of Marlborough's Huia Vineyards by working with celebrated New Zealand photographer Dr Fiona Pardington (Ngāi Tahu, Kāti Mamoe and Ngāti Kahungunu), Chevalier de l'Ordre Française des Arts et des Lettres, as she created an original work of a pair of Huia, an extinct native bird of Aotearoa New Zealand, to be used on limited edition magnums of Huia Millennial Brut 2000.
SAUVIGNON BLANC, INNIT.
Friday, 7th May is Sauvignon Blanc Day. That little green grape is is still New Zealand’s most planted, consumed and exported wine variety. We love it here and clearly, you still love it there, where you are and by Jove we love you for it.
Savoury Pear, Fig and Cheese Tart — seasonal splendour by Cazador
At Huia, our main focus right now is harvesting the few rows of grapes we have outside the front door but when it rains it pours and the walnuts and figs are ready now too. Busy times and to make the most of the autumnal deliverance, I needed a recipe ASAP so nothing goes to waste…
Memories of Moosewood.
Mollie Katzen wanted to be an artist. Maybe a writer. Or was it a musician? Perhaps it was all of the above. What incidentally occurred on her journey to become the next Joan Baez was she earned herself the title one of the most revered and quiet revolutionists of modern-day cuisine — vegetarian cooking.
This whole making clean wine sure is a dirty business.
Organic Wine Week is 21 — 27 Sept. We’re celebrating by getting our hands dirty - much like every other week but that’s the fun of making organic wine. Or as our mates in Hollywood call it, clean wine!
a very vegan wine.
When winemaker Claire Allan chatted with her sister, a vegetarian, she realised there was some confusion about whether all wine was appropriate for vegans. Claire — who is also a vegetarian, and a winemaker who rebels against the industry’s wide use of thoughtless additives — felt it was time to make a change. Since 2010 all Huia wines have been suitable for vegans. Learn more about how we do it.
PINOT NOIR / eighteen august.
18th August is Pinot Noir Day. Inconveniently it’s a Tuesday but really every day is Pinot Noir day, right? So don’t feel too put out.
Read a little more on this most noble grape and how to order your Huia range of Pinot Noir in time for that Tuesday!
why organics?
At Huia Vineyards we use no pesticides, insecticides or herbicides in our vineyards. Within the wine making process we eliminate the use of artificial additives. This leaves the wine full of natural texture.
MANA Winegrowers — earning our place.
If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together. MANA Winegrowers is a collective of Marlborough organic winemakers determined to go far together.
The Sparkling Rosé
To celebrate the long-time partnership of Huia Vineyards and New Zealand fashion designer Kate Sylvester, we popped our first ever sparkling Rosé, the 2016 Limited Edition Estate Grown Sparkling Rosé Brut into a delicate modernist rose print from designer Kate Sylvester’s collection “Frances”.
collaboration with Kate
It was seven years ago that iconic New Zealand fashion house Kate Sylvester started pouring our organic wines crafted by Huia for their guests. Designer Kate sat down with Winemaker Claire over a glass or two at Seabreeze Café, Kate’s local, to talk about why their brands are working together and how this relationship came about.
